Micro Ring Hair Extensions - An Introduction

Part of my role as a hair extension specialist is to provide customers with accurate and up to date information on the latest tips and tricks of maintaining healthy, natural looking hair extensions.

What are Micro Ring Hair Extensions?
There are many different types of hair extensions out there, many of which can be rather damaging. This is often due to incorrect after care advice that is given or can also be the hot glue/paste that is used to attach some types of extensions to the hair! This is where Micro Rings differ from the rest, as there is no glue or any other nasty chemicals used to attach Micro Rings! All that is involved is a tiny copper ring that is pinched shut with a pair of pliers, easy peasy.

How do I the Right Extension Specialist?
There are many things to consider when choosing the correct specialist to fit your extensions.
1. Take a look at ALL of their work to get an idea of how you would like your hair to look, you can point out certain styles that she has previously fitted and then you know for definite that she will be able to recreate this look again.
2. Make sure that she is qualified and insured, this is very important as you need to make sure that you are dealing with a professional that can give you accurate advice.
3. Ask to look at the hair that she uses and make sure it is 100% human. If it only contains part human hair, this will not last very long and you cannot use heated tools on them!
4. Look at their website or Facebook page and see if they have any recommendations. This way you can see how many ladies they have worked with and you can even message these women to see how they have found their experience!

Stay tuned for more tips on Micro Ring Hair Extensions! The next post in this series will be all about what you can expect from your extensions and what will happen on fitting day!

Mono Pastel Perfection

'Mono Pastel' is hot this season. Combinations of your favourite pastel colours with black make for a beautifully fresh look this February.

Create an exciting style by pulling together a number of your favourite pastel colours in an Aztec pattern like I have below using the black to high light the shapes and lines you've formed.

Issie Dot's Beauty Spot has always been a mobile beauty therapy service, I have never moved it to a salon.. Until now! To anybody that lives in Maidstone, Kent or nearby areas.. I am renting a chair in Kent Hair, an amazing Hair Dressers that offers a fantastic range of services. I actually became a client for Kent Hair well over a year ago and can honestly say that I have never had anybody get the exact colour that I wanted but my Hair dresser Caroline is simply brilliant and understands what i would like every time! I am so excited about working with these wonderful ladies and would like to offer a 20% off for any new client that comes to me for a treatment, along with many different offers that I have running at the moment.. just contact me to enquire!

Cath Kidston Inspired Nails

Like many out there, I am a big Cath Kidston fan. I love all the patterns and floral loveliness that there is on her products. I recently purchased a Cath Kidston box bag, in a floral pattern with a white background and I love it, it goes with any outfit and is such a pretty design. So.. Last week I had a client who wanted a bright and fun design in CND Shellac on her nails, so I thought what better design that Cath Kidston? Here are the different designs that I came up with for her nails and her toenails too, and my nails (as I had to have it for myself too!)

What do you think of the design? Do you like Cath Kidston?

Does Shellac Make Nails Stronger?

This has been one of the questions that I have been asked most frequently.. so thought I would do a post to explain the answer and result. First of all, what is shellac? Shellac is a hybrid nail treatment, with the finish of a traditional polish but the long-lasting results of a gel treatment. It is scratch and wear-resistant and can have a variety of finishes including glitter, pearl and metallic! After performing a basic manicure, the therapist will apply the Shellac nail polish layer by layer, curing each one with a special UV lamp that dries the polish instantly. Shellac should do absolutely no damage to your nails, so if you want to have it re-applied, it's safe to go for it straight away. Sound good? I can honestly say, this treatment is the only treatment that has given my nails strength.. and lasts for 2 weeks! To give you the proof, (and sorry to show you such awful, dry nails in the before shot) here are my nails before and with the shellac nails, using a colour called 'Romantique'. Believe it or not...the after shot is after 11 days of wear so you can see how durable and glossy this polish lasts!

Why not try to have Shellac on your next manicure?

Red Shellac Nails

I always love it when a client asks for a nail colour or design that is bright and colourful! So last week, I decided to use one of my newer colours to my collection.. a cherry red called 'Wildfire'. She asked for glitter on her ring finger and chose a holographic, loose glitter. She had already applied acrylics to her nails for added length and strength and wanted a shellac manicure so that her polish could stay immaculate for her weekend away. What do you think?

Fearne Cotton Collection

Today I thought I would write a review of one of my favourite Drugstore products, as this is my first review! Fearne cotton, DJ presenter, designer and New Mum has created a line of make up for Boots including several colours of lip glosses, eye liners, lipstick and nail polish sets. Her make up range is a reflection of what is happening on the catwalk with bright pastels and gorgeous glitters, there is something for everyone! The packaging and bottles of the products are eye-catching too, with hearts and flower designs around the bottom, her designs are very unique. I simply could not choose what products to purchase but I eventually chose the lip gloss set and one of the nail polish sets that contained the darker, more opaque colour range. I can honestly say that these polishes are worth buying, retailing at £12.99 for five polishes, which I think is a bargain. The colours spread very evenly and the glitters are amazing, my favourite is the red.. Just like Dorothy's shoes in the Wizard of Oz!

Shellac Glitter Statement Nail

Today really felt like spring is on its way! So to match the sunny weather, I decided to create a nail look on a client that was bright and pretty... and here it is. I used Shellac Hybrid Gel for this look as it is more durable, gives a much more glossy effect and has a lovely colour range! She chose "Rose Bud", a dusky and opaque pink. For a feminine feel, I applied loose, rose gold glitter to each ring finger which added some spring sparkle!
